I enjoyed this one too…

Barack Obama on “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart” on October 29, 2008:

I think he knew

Oh, man, this was so funny.  I actually was watching CNN when Rick Sanchez was doing the interview:

I absolutely had to rewind it to show my wife.  It’s a good thing that CNN doesn’t have a live studio audience.  They would have been chanting “Rick! Rick! Rick! Rick!”

And we had liftoff…

So it’s been exactly ten years since I experienced my first (and only) Space Shuttle launch.

Recounted on this day in history:

Ten years ago: Senator John Glenn, at age 77, roared back into space aboard the shuttle Discovery, retracing the trail he’d blazed for America’s astronauts 36 years earlier.

That was an amazing, inspiring sight.  I happened to be in Orlando for a SANS conference that week and so I called “Gator Tours” in the phone book and set up a bus ride out to the space coast.

shuttle-ticketA truly memorable experience.  Now I did take my camera and somewhere I have some nice “far away” photos I can share, but these NASA images below truly do the launch justice:

Less than an hour

In less than an hour, Barack Obama’s much-anticipated political “infomercial” hits the airwaves.  Here is a short preview:

Election Day is sneaking up on us…

Here is MSNBC’s Decision ’08 Widget:

Here we go with the weather again

Okay, so what does that mean? Well, in my strange world, that simply means it’s time for winter.

But it really is too early.  I can’t believe it’s October 28 and we’re already talking about snow.  But the mountains may get it a little worse than us.

Here is a little map that shows what we’re dealing with out there:

A New ‘Hitchhiker’ book?

All the characters have been blown to pieces, and the trilogy is already two books too long.

But the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy has never had a problem with highly improbable events.

Adams himself said: “I suspect at some point in the future I will write a sixth Hitchhiker book…I would love to finish Hitchhiker on a slightly more upbeat note.

“Five seems to be a wrong kind of number, six is a better kind of number.”

My initial response to this was one of hesitation… The movie was just kind of “so-so” to be honest, and I still somewhat prefer the BBC series.  So my first thought of hesitation is simply because the movie didn’t turn out quite right and I’m afraid the new book might not either.

But since I’ve recently been re-reading the books, and still hang on every word just as I did several years ago, the first time through, part of me really wants to know what happens next, after Stavromula Beta.  So I’m bordering on excitement at the idea…

Best of luck to newly-crowned King of Satirical Genius, Eoin Colfer.  I will be waiting with bated breath…

Ripe for the picking

You’ve seen it on CNN pretty much every day for the past few months.  Now watch it in Thursday night’s SNL Weekend Update:

That technology is very cool, and pretty funny when used correctly.  I found a little more about the company behind the map, Perceptive Pixel, at their website.

And I thought Microsoft’s Surface was cool… I think this looks a little more useful.  But you know what happens.  Microsoft seems to take a successful technology and takes it a little closer to home and office use.  So there’s still a good chance you’ll see Surface on a table near you.

WALL•E on DVD November 18

Hey, play the 3Cup WALL•E game.  My high score is 1300.

That reminds me, I went to see “Beverly Hills Chihuahua” on Saturday.  I need to update my “Last 3 Movies…”

It’s about time…

It only took 22 years, but I’m done:

hhg-amiga

I have finally beaten the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy Infocom game.  Of course, as is always the case with an Infocom game, I needed a little help.

This was the first game I got with my Commodore 128 back in the mid-80′s.  I got another version for the Amiga, and finished that one with my Amiga emulator just the other day.

And to think, for all these years, that there actually was a “causal relationship” between the toothbrush and the tree collapse! Boy, did they pull the wool over my eyes!

Hey, you can play an updated, 20th Anniversary edition of the game at BBC 4′s website!
