Pittsburgh Zoo

Last Saturday, 17 of us headed up to Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium. Of course, 9 of those were kids, who had a really good time! They enjoyed seeing all the animals and even petting a few, like the millipede and the deer.Kids pose with Grandma at the Kids Kingdom

The zoo recently opened a polar bear exhibit at a whole new section of the zoo called “Water’s Edge.”

One of my favorite things to watch at the zoo are the penguins. I could sit and watch them for hours! It’s like they each have their own personality.

The kids also played in the Kids Kingdom area of the zoo where they could climb like monkeys, hop like kangaroos and get caught in a spider’s web! A peacock met them at the exit of one of the sliding boards at the zoo.  That freaked some of them out!

More Nerd Humor

You will think I’m a nerd. (I am a nerd.) I think this is funny:

You see, this is funny for several reasons…

First off, anything to do with Back to the Future is great, especially when you have Doc Brown himself bumbling around the time machine. By the way, I love Bob’s “life preserver.”

Second, I love to see Microsoft poke fun of itself. They’ve had tons of brilliant ideas and a few stinkers as well. (Microsoft Bob, anyone? 1) Any company that can laugh at itself and handle it this smooth deserves a lot of credit.

Third, that’s my phone! At the end of this video, Bob takes a pic of the scene to send to the HR department. It’s an HTC S620, or in the U.S. more likely known as the T-Mobile Dash. It’s got the HTC branding, so it must really be the S620. Except it’s running Windows Mobile 6 on it. Sometime in June HTC should be releasing the update so that all of us can run Windows Mobile 6 on our S620′s, and we won’t have to time travel like Marty… er… Bob and Doc to get our hands on it.

Very funny video. I just wish it was complete. Just like a Hollywood blockbuster, it ends with a cliffhanger. “Will Bob get the incriminating photos to HR in time?”

[Note: I edited this on 6/19/2007 to replace the original Soapbox video with a more complete YouTube one.]

[1] If I’m being totally honest here, the idea that Microsoft was trying to get across with the misguided “Bob” was a good one — It just wasn’t executed in the right way. It was an early attempt at “ease of use” or a good “out-of-box experience” (OOBE) for novice end-users. A worthy goal that did manifest itself in later versions of Windows. Just not executed well with Bob.

Kids activities wind down

recital-1 Dance has wound down. T-Ball has wound down. Soccer has wound down. It’s been a crazy couple of months, but it’s all settling down now.

Allison performed at her dance recital on Friday and Saturday nights. She had cousins that also danced. They were in a different class, but performed on the same night.

Thanks to all the dance instructors this season. You have all been wonderful, and have done a great job with all the kids.  All the girls did an excellent job last weekend! Way to go!

Ryan’s T-Ball finished this past Friday night at the Shinnston Little League field. All the kids received participation trophiesIMAGE_063. They all did well over the whole season and should be proud of what they’ve accomplished!

And a special thanks to all of Ryan’s coaches this season. They did a great job of teaching the kids some fundamentals of the game. The kids had a great time and I’m sure Ryan will miss T-Ball.

All the kids got to meet Levi Maxwell, a Shinnston boy who was recently drafted by the Chicago White Sox. He signed a lot of baseball caps and was very nice to each of the kids. Thanks, and good luck!

10 years ago today…

“So, here we are 10 years later. Ten years ago at this time, we were in the sky, flying high.”

It’s been a long time since our big england ’97 trip. The seven world travelers had a great time touring the British country side and visiting with family members. Some of the funny things about that trip are still fresh in my memory. A lot of the Stupid Sayings… and, well, just a lot of the vocabulary from those three weeks still find their way into everyday conversation.

But all the memories revolve around friends and family having fun. And there will certainly never be another vacation like england ’97.

Cheers!

Ryan graduates from pre-school, prepares for K-garten

Well, the school year is coming to a close, and nothing says that better than graduation.

Ryan received his diploma today for “graduating” pre-school. He is being promoted to kindergarten.

All the kids sang songs and read a poem that showed how much they learned this school year.

Have a great summer kids! And congratulations!
