A Slight Change…

Today I made a couple of modifications to my site. Hopefully they are improvements. Just a couple of little minor things, but nice nonetheless:

  1. The site should (honestly!) load faster now when jumping from page to page. I took some of the information (events, Idol blog, weather, etc.) off of all the other sub-pages, and left it only on the home page. This should seriously help performance.
  2. Added a “Jaiku” presence badge on the right-hand sidebar of the home page. Jaiku is like twitter. Of course, now I have to describe what twitter is, so why did I say that? Anyway, the idea behind twitter and Jaiku is like an online presence locator. It lets people know if you’re online and what you’re doing. You can update with whatever info you like. I have yet to get Jaiku working with my cell phone and I think twitter would probably work easier, so I’m not committed to Jaiku totally yet. However, it looks to me as if Jaiku has a good grip on the possibilities…

So there. There hasn’t been a whole lot of excitement lately. The kids have had a lot of soccer/T-ball practices and the weather has been nice, so I haven’t been inside enough to post! Not complaining though. I am so glad spring is here!

Soapbox on MSN

This is my first MSN Soapbox Video:

Or, it would be. But MSN Soapbox is no longer around. However, I do have the same video on my site now:

2003 DisneyQuest CyberSpace Mountain

It was pulled from a videotape we bought at Walt Disney World in 2003. My favorite thing to watch is Tina’s hair flipping way up over her head as she goes upside down!

Ryan’s first basketball game

Ryan had his first Jerry West league basketball game tonight.  He didn’t score any points, but he did have a couple of rebounds and maybe an assist.  It’s so hard to tell with 5 and 6 year olds! But he did a good job and had a lot of fun.

Here are a couple of pictures.  They came from my camcorder, so they are kind of grainy:

Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2007! And the Mountaineers finally won a Gator Bowl yesterday, defeating Georgia Tech 38 to 35.

It’s been back to work and back to school now that the holidays are over.  I always wish I had taken more time off during the holidays and spent more time playing games and playing with the kids’ new toys.  This year Santa Claus brought the kids a multi-game table:

Olympian 15-in-1 Multi-Game Table

That’s been the most popular toy this season.  And there was also Thrillville and Nicktoons Unite for the PS2.  They’ve been fun to play.  In fact, I bought a PS2 memory card so that I can save my own games to it, and not have the kids erase it, or overwrite it or something.

‘Twas the Night Before Christmas

Merry Christmas! We’ve been visiting with relatives and friends the past few days and been over-eating all along the way. I’ve got a few new pictures to post. I’ve got a couple new ones of Allison and Ryan lighing candles at church and better shots of them on Santa’s lap.

2007 is almost here. Time just flies by. I found an old episode of MTV’s “Remote Control” that I used to watch regularly in the late 80′s:

Have a Merry Christmas!

The big man in the red suit

Allison and Ryan got to have a chat with Santa Claus himself tonight at church.

Ryan showed Santa his cast.  Both of them told Santa what they wanted for Christmas.

‘Tis the Season

Hello everyone! It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas around here.  I mean, everywhere you go! Okay, enough of that sillyness…

I’ve finally got Vista working well on the Media PC.  Turns out my video card was giving me fits.  I backed off and used a little simple card that doesn’t support the Aero Glass, and things are much better now.  I think I will need a new full system in order to take advantage of all that new graphical fanciness.  But for now Windows Media Center in Vista it looks just fine.

I read on their site that Axcis will be coming out with version 2.7 of Media Center Information Server Pro, and then my “Now Playing on the Media Center” will start working again.  I’ll install it as soon as I get it.

On another front, I think I am going to start buckling down and earning a Microsoft Certification.  It’s something I’ve been mulling over for a while, and I think I could do it.  I just need to brush up and take some practice exams.  From what I remember those questions can be a little tricky!

Like a kid again

One of the best things about being a parent is that I now have a good excuse to watch cartoons again.

Of course, cartoons are a little different now than they used to be.  I always used to watch Bugs Bunny on Saturday mornings, and then, if we were lucky, we’d go out to the Middletown Mall and go shopping.  Sometimes we’d even eat at McDonald’s, which was about the only fast food restaurant in town.

Now it seems like we rely on Mickey D’s or Burger King to supply half our meals. But, I’m getting off the topic.

Anyway, Disney-Pixar’s “Cars” was released on DVD today.  We saw it in the theaters and I knew I’d want to pick this one up. I’m a NASCAR fan anyway, so I didn’t need any prodding to go see this one. It was very entertaining for kids and parents alike.

Pick it up if you’ve got kids, and maybe even if you don’t.

Disc 1 is done!

I got disc 1 done of our “england ’97″ adventure. I’m sure it’s going to be three discs total. I need to see if I can find a DVD case that will hold three discs. And I need to make copies and create a web version to post!

England ’97 – A really far look back

As I mentioned in my last post, Diana and Derek were recently in from England.  When they come in we often get together as a family for dinners and such, and at one dinner last week we started discussing our last visit to England.  I went more often when I was a kid, but the trip in 1997 was the first for my nephew Derek.  (Yes, I have an uncle named Derek, and a nephew named Derek, too.  Confused yet? It may help to know that the nephew was named after the uncle…)

Anyway, after discussing the ’97 trip to England, Derek (the nephew) asked if I still had my pictures and mini-site from the vacation.  So, here it is, exactly as it looked in 1997.  The downside of that: some of the links on the left-hand column probably won’t work right, and there are bound to be some typos out there.  But other than that, please enjoy the look back from almost ten years ago.
